Toni Sands Interview

Where were you born and raised?

Born Barry, South Wales.

What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start writing?

I was a goody-goody little girl whose essays were read out at school. Then I found it was more fun being a baddy-baddy girl and became a Butlin Redcoat and an airhostess amongst other things. Writing was a rediscovered joy after I settled down.

Which writers have influenced you the most?

I have a thing about names so probably Dickens impressed me. Modern writers: Rosie Thomas, Anita Shreve and latterly Louise Bagshawe, Penny Vincenzi and Catherine Alliott.

What kind of things do you write?

I write romantic fiction and erotic stories. My work has also appeared in literary magazines so, as you can see, I enjoy changing genres.

What are you working on now?

Working on another romantic comedy novel. My work attracted the attention of a literary agent when my novel Suddenly You Know was accepted for publication by the YouWriteOn Scheme.

What is your writing day like?

I enjoy cooking so might nip out for fresh provisions then come back and take a coffee to my writing room which is totally my space. I am so lucky.

What’s the most exciting thing about writing for you?

Writing gives me a buzz. It makes me forget all the bumpy bits of life. And I love entertaining people so always write with that in mind.

What’s the most frustrating thing about writing for you?

Not having enough time to do more of it.

What’s the best piece of feedback that you’ve had from your audience?

Three publishers/agents at the Winchester Writers' Conference 2008 told me 'you can write.' Also, I'm thrilled with the reviews of Suddenly You Know on the Amazon website.

Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to satisfy your own creativity?

I write the best I can. And if it satisfies and amuses me, then there's a fair chance it will do the same if it gets published.

Do you have a homepage? Do you have any short stories or poems published online? (If so, please provide the URLs):

I write erotica and full-length romance as Toni Sands. Please see www.tonisands.co.uk
