“The Secret of the Sirens” is Julia Golding’s 2nd
novel. It is Book One of “The Companions Quartet”. Connie is sent to a seaside
town to live with her aunt, who she discovers belongs to the secret Society for
the Protection of Mythical Creatures. The SPMC is alarmed to find that the
Sirens are once again leading humans to their deaths. Connie works out that the
Sirens are killing oil workers, as a protest against devastating pollution.
Connie’s loyalties are divided: should she help her fellow humans or the
mythical beasts? This becomes more pronounced when Connie discovers that she’s
a Universal – the first person for over a century with the ability to
communicate with all humans and beasts. Trouble is, the previous Universal
became corrupted by this power, and now he’s back… To find out more about the

Authortrek reader Emma says:
“This book is fab! It's exciting, unpredictable and wonderfully different.
Definitely a 5 star. A great start to a series, and i can't wait to read the
rest. I hope they'll be just as good. It's a classic idea but tremendously well
written. Unique.”
