“The Meaning of Night” is the title of Michael Cox’s debut
novel. The novel is set in London in 1854, and starts off with the stabbing of
a red-haired man in an alleyway. The novel's epigraph reads as: "For Death
is the meaning of night; the eternal shadow into which all lives must fall, all
hopes expire," which in some ways reflects the anxiety that the author
felt upon nearly losing his sight. To find out more about the author’s fabulous
life, you must visit our Michael Cox page.
