“The Bronte Project” is the title of Jennifer Vandever’s
debut novel. Sara Frost is a young Bronte scholar, who has been abandoned by
her fiancé, Paul, as he heads off to France to pursue his dreams. Her
department seems to prefer the Princess Diana studies pursued by the glamorous
Claire Vigee rather than Sara’s work. And it doesn’t help that Claire wants
Sara to work on a symposium with her, comparing the lives of Charlotte Bronte
and Princess Di. However, Sara is drawn to the charismatic movie producer Byrne
Emmons, even though he’s hoping that she can provide him with the happy ending
for his Brontes movie that they never had in real life. Sara is also drawn to
Denis, Claire’s half-brother, who’s constantly working on a poem that he never
sets to paper. Along the way, Sara discovers that Charlotte Bronte has taught
