T. A. Taylor interview, author of Through the Wall to the World Unknown.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Ohio.

What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start writing?

I started writing before I was eight years old. I loved to write and illustrate all I wrote no matter how short of a story. I would have to say it was my parents who inspired me to write. They always allowed me to be creative and writing my part of my creative outlet.

Which writers have influenced you the most?

Every author influences me in some way. I feel that all authors have a fresh outlook to writing and they help me to find my own fresh outlook. It is like knowing that there are others as passionate about writing as I am out there, so I have to show the world just like they have to. It is nice to know that each book can cause inspiration for someone and I want to give inspiration to others as well.

What kind of things do you write?

I write children’s books, as well as fantasy, action/adventure, historical, documentary and suspense.

What are you working on now?

At this moment I am getting my second book published titled Secret of the Blue Stone: The Chosen One. It is the first of a fantasy/action trilogy. The first book I published was Through the Wall to the World Unknown, which was a children’s book. While The Chosen One is being published I have already written eight other books and I am in the process of editing them as well as illustrating a couple of them. And to add on to my writing workload I have started writing two other books.

What is your writing day like?

Unstructured. I never follow the rules to writing. I never set aside time before hand, I write when the moment strikes me. I am unconventional like those ten books I wrote, I wrote them in two years, which other authors have told me is very uncommon and my books are not short they are all long chapter books. I feel that if I ever made writing a chore though than I would not like to write, so I incorporate writing into my schedule like a piece of art being defined when I see fit. Writing seems to find me and I seem to constantly jot things down in my tons of notebooks. Oh, I never brainstorm the characters beforehand. I write everything as I imagine them or the scene and if I cannot see it quite literally happening in my imagination than it does not go into the book.

What’s the most exciting thing about writing for you?

The thought of my books reaching someone else and inspiring them to write. I write to leave a legacy for others to use their own imaginations, create their own worlds and to show others their creativity.

What’s the most frustrating thing about writing for you?

Absolutely nothing. I have never had writer’s block, never needed to delete pages from my books or even tear pages from my notebooks. I write exactly how I want to and I find no flaw in the content. I look at my books as my own form of art sort of like a painting or sculpture. It is something I created from start to finish. I put the time and effort into it and all I created became my own.

What’s the best piece of feedback that you’ve had from your audience?

Never give up and never listen to the critics. I know people say to, but don’t. A critic will always criticize because that is their job and your job is to create a work of art in your writing that is your own interpretation of a world you have created. I realize becoming an author is a difficult task, but never give up. Sometimes a great book is never realized until it is given a second chance. Being great is accomplished by showing others you are great and the only way to do so is to stand by your book(s). Writing is a form of art and not everyone will get it, but there will be many that will as long as you never give up. Continue to do your best, promote your book or try hard to get it published and never let anyone discourage you. If you have questions, ask them and if you have answers, share them.

Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to satisfy your own creativity?

My first priority is to satisfy my own creativity because if I do not like my book why would anyone else? My writing is an extension of myself and therefore lies to me to make it great.
