Susan
Cooper is an excellent novelist most famous for “The Dark is Rising” series: “Over Sea,
Under Stone” (1965), “The Dark
Is Rising” (1973), “Greenwitch”
(1974), “The
Grey King” (1975), and “Silver on
the Tree” (1977). She also wrote
two books featuring a character called “The Boggart”: “The
Boggart” (1993), and “The
Boggart and the Monster” (1997). In
addition to these, Susan Cooper has written a number of “one-off” books: “Dawn of Fear” (1972), “Seaward”
(1983), “King
of Shadows” (1999), “Green Boy”
(2002), “The
Magician's Boy” (2005), and “Victory”
(2006). Susan Cooper has also written
several picture books: “The Silver
Cow: A Welsh Tale” (1983), “The Selkie
Girl” (1986), “Matthew's
Dragon” (1991), “Danny and
the Kings” (1993), and “Frog”
(2002).

Interview with
Susan Cooper by Raymond H. Thompson - an interview which mainly concentrates on the
Arthurian aspects of Cooper's novels, she does mention that the Second World
War was also a big influence. She says that she could see Windsor Castle
from her bedroom as a kid as I did. Could Dawn of Fear possibly be set in
the Chalvey/Datchet region?
