“Sea Otters Gambolling in the Wild, Wild Surf” is the title
of John Bennett’s debut novel. Teenager Felix is bored. He’s also stressed out
about his future, and what's more, he’s feeling a bit guilty after giving Mrs
Pretzel’s spaniel; Vespasian, a mixture containing laxatives and the Scrabble
letter ‘Z’. However, it’s curiosity that leads Felix on a quest half way around
the world, after he sees a statue at the clearance sale in ‘The House of Crap’:
“What sat on the shelf before me was a
plastic statuette, about eight inches high by ten inches long, depicting a fat,
semi-naked, bald man rear-ending an oversized, pink, glittery otter. I stood
there and gaped. I couldn’t believe it. It was a statue of a man having sex
with an otter.” Join Felix as he discovers just how far a stolen credit
card will go… Will he get back before his little sister find outs what he’s
been up to? Will he pass his A-Levels? And will he be as lucky as his name
suggests? To find out more about the author, you must visit our John Bennett page.
