Priya Basil is the author of the novel "Ishq and Mushq" (2007), which means "love and smell".

Biography (supplied by the publisher): “Priya Basil was born in London in 1977 but spent most of her childhood in Kenya. Her parents are Indian of Sikh origin. She studied English Literature at the University of Bristol then worked for three years as an account manager in a leading London advertising agency. Four years ago she moved to Berlin to be with her partner, a German news journalist, who encouraged her ambitions to write. ISHQ AND MUSHQ started to take shape. As an antidote to writing, Priya took up cooking and developed a passion for good food, especially desserts. While she was writing the book she also helped her uncle set up a catering company specialising in producing a uniquely fine and subtle style of Indian food.”
