Orna Ross is the author of “Lovers’ Hollow”.
“Orna Ross” is the pseudonym of Áine McCarthy, who also writes under the name
of Anna Ross. She is currently at work at her second novel, “Imagining Iseult”,
which will be about Iseult Gonne,
daughter of Maud Gonne. Áine McCarthy also works as a literary agent (which was
no doubt useful in securing her publishing deal). She teaches writing
internationally through her company Font International (www.fontwriters.com). In addition, she
is employed by The Women’s Education Research and Resource Centre (WERRC) at
University College Dublin as a teaching associate in the fields of Creative
Writing and Literature, and where she was instrumental in the creation of the
“Creative and Imaginative Practice” module. Áine McCarthy was awarded an MA in
Women’s Studies from the same institution in 1997 (her thesis was entitled
“Hearths, Bodies and Minds: Gender Ideology and the Committal of Women to
Enniscorthy Lunatic Asylum 1916-1925”). Furthermore, Áine McCarthy teaches
Creative Writing at the Irish Writers’ Centre. In 2004, she helped establish
WoW (“Women of Wealth –
Wealth of Women”). Her research interest is in the history and literature
of twentieth century Irish women. She has written many articles and book
reviews for the British and Irish press. Furthermore, Áine McCarthy is the
author of several non-fiction books: “Bodymatters
for Women” (1989), “How to
Lose Weight and Keep Fit” (1990), and “Get up
& Go: A Travel Survival Guide” (1992). Áine McCarthy has been
previously employed as a waitress, a saleswoman, and as an aerobics instructor.
She lives in Dublin with her family.
