“Notes from a Turkish Whorehouse” is the debut collection of
short stories from Irish writer Philip O Ceallaigh. A performance artist
displays his beating heart onstage, a rodent called Brigitte plays a role in
the life of two aged men, a woman has to coax her husband off the roof to attend
a medical examination. Those who have read the book say that Philip O
Ceallaigh’s adopted homeland of Romania seems to have been quite an influence
in this collection, especially the story about the strange ideas about gold
that some folk in southwest hills entertain. The publishers have described the
stories as “tales of work and idleness, ambition and frustration… love and lust
and decay”. For more information about the author, you must visit our Philip O
Ceallaigh page.
