Nicola Monaghan is the
author of “The
Killing Jar”. She became a maths teacher in 1993, but left teaching in 1996
to work as a financial analyst in the City of London and to travel. She has
also worked as a software guru. However, she made another career change in
2001, when she returned to her home city to become a student on the MA in
Writing course at Nottingham Trent University. The course obviously worked for
her, and has helped to establish her reputation (shown by the fact that Boyd
Tonkin has named her as one of the “Rising
Stars of 2006” in “The Independent”). Nicola Monaghan’s work has also
featured in the short story anthology “Sunday Night and Monday Morning” (2006).
Nicola Monaghan won a Betty Trask award for “The Killing Jar” in 2006.
