Nadia Brown interview, author of Unscrambled Eggs

Where were you born and raised?

Nadia BrownI was born in Queens, New York but was raised and currently reside in the sunshine state of Miami, Florida.

What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start writing?

When I was younger I wrote song lyrics when I was about 12 years old, though I did not consider myself a writer of any sort at the time, but I began writing poems around seven years ago, and from there, my writing progressed dramatically. Just two years ago I started writing articles on book marketing, politics and how-to articles on writing.

Which writers have influenced you the most?

There are a few writers I have been influenced by whose work I have stumbled across on the Internet, but they are not well known, and there are other famous writers like Maya Angelou and Billy Collins who have influenced me greatly.

What kind of things do you write?

I write poetry; my poems tend to be on a wide-range of themes. I also write song lyrics and articles mainly on book marketing, writing and on politics. In the future I would love to write either a novel or screenplay.

What are you working on now?

After publishing my first book of poems titled, Unscrambled Eggs, I have been working hard to market this book, which has been well received by the public and has gotten many good reviews. I am composing another collection and trying to divide my time as a freelance writer and a businesswoman. I am also the founder of Author-Promotion.com. It is a resource directory for aspiring and established authors alike and also showcases their literary works.

What is your writing day like?

I always try to do something related to my work on a daily basis, but I do not have a specific writing schedule as time doesn't always afford me the chance to write for various reasons. There are days when it seems I write endlessly, and there are days I don't write at all.

What’s the most exciting thing about writing for you?

It is exciting to create, and anytime I create I enjoy the process. I take extreme pleasure from being able to write things that are of substance and meaningful to people’s daily lives.

What’s the most frustrating thing about writing for you?

The most frustrating thing about writing is not always having the time to write and not yet being able to write in the form of excellence.

What’s the best piece of feedback that you've had from your audience?

I have been fortunate to have been blessed to receive many good reviews for my book Unscrambled Eggs. I have also been told by writers that my articles on book marketing and tips on writing have been beneficial to them. This is what I aspire to do is to have my work (words) be of value to those who read it.

Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to satisfy your own creativity?

I do try to keep readers in mind, but I write for myself and hope there will be readers who relate to my work. I believe when writers write from the heart, write with excellence, write with a sense of purpose, or write to inform readers then they will always have an audience for their work.

Do you have a homepage? Do you have any short stories or poems published online? (If so, please provide the URLs):

Readers can learn more about my work and read sample poems from my book Unscrambled Eggs. They can also read reviews, articles and some poems I will have published for my next poetry collection on my website at www.nadiabrown.com. I have also launched a website for authors called Author-Promotion.com (Author & Book Promotion). It was launched for aspiring and established authors alike. It is a resource directory for authors -- comprised of articles, marketing tips, and resources on book promotion. For authors wanting greater exposure, a “featured books” section is available on www.author-promotion.com. It is a service that A&BP is providing to best-selling and new authors seeking an increase in their online book publicity.
