“My Father’s Notebook” is the title of Kader Abdolah’s first
novel to be translated into English. Aga Akbar, a deaf mute boy from Persia,
develops his own script from a strange cuneiform carving found in a cave on a
holy mountain. Through his writing, Akbar tries to make sense of the changes
that the 20th Century has brought to his country. A generation
later, Akbar’s son has been forced to flee his country, leaving his family
behind. Ishmael tries to decipher his father’s notebook, and in the process
discovers what has been lost and found… To find out more about the author, you
