Morgan McDermott’s short
stories just can’t stop winning prizes.
In 2002 he was one of supplementary winners in the Bridport Prize, and
he has also won in the H. E. Francis Award, The Nebraska Review Award, New
Millennium Writings, the One Story Magazine Prize, the River City Award, The
Belllingham Review, Phoebe, the Fish Prize (for “Tinkerbell”), Meridian, Swink,
Glimmer Train (for “Traction”), Speakeasy, and the Tobia Wolff Award (for
“Clear Coat”). It’s no surprise
then that he teaches creative writing (at the Adlai E. Stevenson High School,
just outside Chicago). He’s on the
staff of the annual short story magazine StoryQuarterly. Morgan McDermott has a short story
collection coming out called “Owner’s Manual”.
