Kathy Bunn-Schultz interview, author of The Convent and the Rose and Riley's Gift.

Kathy Bunn SchultzWhere were your born and raised?

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on a cold Thanksgiving day.  There was even a touch of   snow on the ground.  I lived there until I was 21 and since then have traveled to many states.

 I presently reside in Texas.

What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start writing?

As a child, I acted out little scenes, like most children do when playing, but never put them down on paper.  I invented stories to tell my son when he was small and was told that they were good, but I did not put anything on paper until a chance deja vu experience encouraged me to put it down on paper and see what happens.  I did and I have been writing lyrics and stories since 1982.

Which writers have influenced you the most?

Faulkner, Hemingway, Doyle, and Elizabeth B. Browning.

What kind of things do you write?

Romance, war and almost all my writings have a tinge of the mystique.

At present, I have two books published.

   1. Convent and the Rose..A romantic Western, mystique ending

   2.  Riley's Gift, Drama, Romance, War, ESP

What are you working on now?

I am working on a spy thriller.

What is your working day like?

My working day consists of maybe an hour during the week (I work a full time job as a  nurse). On weekends, I spend most of my Saturdays writing.

What is the most exciting thing about writing for you?

The excitement of new ideas, new characters and trying to make them come alive on the pages.

What is the most frustrating thing about writing for you?

Accurate information that I might need about the time period, weapons, etc.  I really have to spend some time researching.

What is the best piece of feedback that you've had from your audience?

I am happy to say that nothing has pleased me more than to have people tell me that the characters seemed so real and that the reader felt like he or she was right there living the experience with them.

Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to satisfy your own creativity?

Probably a combination of both.  My first two books have been for adults.  I have a child's book in mind and will tackle that one later on.  I also satisfy myself in that I try to inject a bit of wisdom into all of my books, most of the time in a humorous way.
