Kader Abdolah is the author of
“My Father’s
Notebook”. Kader Abdolah is Iranian. However, in 1988 he was forced to flee
to the Netherlands, where he makes a living from writing and journalism. He has
said that he uses Dutch words to protest against the Iranian dictatorship, and
in this way, he tries to bring the dead back to life, and to bring back what
the dictatorship took away from him. I’ve read on one webpage that “Kader
Abdolah” is a pen name that combines the names of 2 of the author’s murdered
colleagues. Not surprisingly, the Iranian authorities are hardly enamoured by
him. Canongate have published the English translation of this novel.
