John Howard is the author of "The Key to
Chintak", part of the Zamorian Chronicles. In 2003, John gave up his
well-paid job to pursue his love of writing. "The Key to Chintak" was
completed quite quickly, but was rejected by many agents, so John
self-published the novel. As The Bookseller writes, “After receiving
numerous rejection letters, Howard indulged in an experiment: he typed up the
contents of his washing machine manual, entitled the manuscript The Silver
Drum, and sent it off. The rejection letters he got this time used exactly
the same wording as had appeared in the first batch. At this point he decided
to give up the conventional approach, and published The Key to Chintak himself.
He then went on the road to market it to his target audience, visiting 40
schools, which has led to the selling of 5,000 copies. "The Key to
Chintak" has now been published in a plush new edition.
