Jay
Osman interview, author of
FUG 10
Where were you born and raised?
In Wiconisco, Pennsylvania, a small coal mining town in
upper Dauphin County.
What was it that first got you into writing and when did
you start writing?
I have always been an avid reader and that set the
foundation. I started writing in 1995 with a series of historical articles
published in Pennsylvania Angler & Boater Magazine. My article, Meet
Me at the Fair won the magazine’s Best Feature Article award of 1998. I
switched to fiction in 2002 after taking an early retirement from public
service and I was hooked. My short story Hug Me to Death won first place
in Writer’s Digest magazine’s WD Popular Fiction Awards competition in 2006.
Ernest Hemingway, Samuel Clemens, Jeffrey Archer, Nelson
DeMille, and Stephen King are at the top of my list.
I write fiction in all genres.
My second novel and some short stories for Amazon Shorts,
a new program on Amazon.com.
I am unstructured and undisciplined. I write when I am
inspired to do so regardless of time of day or day of week. I don’t like
forcing it when I have nothing to say.
Being the master of the made up world I create and
discovering that sometimes I must relinquish control to a character who then
leads the way through the story.
The mundane things required in getting published and its
aftermath…I need a secretary.
What’s the best piece of feedback that you’ve had from
your audience?
A testimonial from a newspaper publisher saying it was
difficult to put FUG 10 down.
Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first
priority to satisfy your own creativity?
I write for a general audience and try to keep “self” out
of the picture. My one and only objective is to entertain the reader.
Do you have a homepage? Do you have any short stories or
poems published online? (If so, please provide the URLs):
My homepage is at www.jmosman.com.
I have one short story published on Amazon Shorts at www.amazon.com and soon
will have more.
