Biography (supplied by his publisher): HARRY THOMPSON
was the inventor and editor of many TV comedy series including Have I Got
News For You and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Besides being a comedy producer and writer, he was also the
author of acclaimed bestsellers, including Peter
Cook: A Biography and This Thing of Darkness, which was longlisted for the Booker Prize.
He worked as a producer at Talkback TV and in his spare time ran the infamous
cricket team, the Captain Scott XI.
Harry died
on the 7th of November 2005, just before he was due to be presented with a British
Comedy Award for his outstanding contributions. In June
2006, his team took part in a charity match against a team of international
Test Cricketers, the Lashings World XI, to raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung
Cancer Foundation in his memory. Lashings won.
Penguins Stopped Play
was a BBC Radio 4 Book of
the Week, and has been shortlisted for the
Tesco Sports Book of the Year. The winner will be announced at the Galaxy
British Book Awards.
