A Flavour of the Book: “In the water, banging gently against the side of the
boat, was a body. The bullet wound
on the head had rendered it an almost unrecognisable mess, but the longish hair
splayed out in the water and the clothes that she still wore indicated that it
was the body of a middle-aged woman.
A magpie, braving the chilly waters in search of something to eat, sat
on her head, pecking harshly at the pale wounded flesh”.
The Authortrek view:
Frankie is a superb novel.
Kevin Lewis’s life on the mean streets have served him well here, for he
writes scenes regarding the vilest of human depravity with great
authenticity. But Frankie
is not mere autobiographical musings, for Kevin Lewis knows how to write a
great plot, and that along with his sublime prose, puts him in the forefront of
British crime writers today.
Having read Frankie, it’s no surprise why his previous novel, Kaitlyn,
was such a success. Kevin Lewis is
also a dab hand at creating believable characters, whether they be male or
female. Frankie is a fast
paced thriller, and yet Kevin Lewis is a mature enough writer to allow his
title character some respite in the novel, by allowing her to develop more
fully over a longer period of time.
You really feel for her when you think that Frankie’s gotten away from
it all, only to have her life threatened by yet another bloody upheaval… Only
this time, it’s not only her life that’s at stake… Authortrek has no doubts
whatsoever that Kevin Lewis is going to have a very long and fruitful career as
a novelist.
