Francesca Kay came 3rd
in the 2005 Asham Award with “Holding the
Baby”. The story looks to have been influenced by the time she spent living
in Ireland, and reveals an active imagination along with the courage to write
in an innovative style. If Francesca ever writes any novels however, I suggest
that she adapt her name, as there already is an accomplished poet out there who
is also called Francesca Kay.
The Francesca Kay who is the subject of this piece was born in London, but
spent most of her childhood in South East Asia and India (where her mother is
from). Francesca read English at Oxford, and worked as a civil servant before
she got married. She subsequently lived in Jamaica, the USA, Ireland, and
Germany. However, she now lives in Oxford with her family.
