“Four Days in June” is the
title of Ian Gale’s debut novel. It tells the story of the battle of Waterloo
from the viewpoint of 5 participants. General Zeithen of the Prussian army is
concerned about his men’s exposed position. The newly married De Lancey is
Wellington’s quartermaster-general, and he is also accompanied by his young
wife while he struggles to cope with Wellington’s incessant demands. Colonel
MacDonnell has been promoted from the Black Watch to stiffen the untested
troops. The battle is also told from Napoleon’s viewpoint, who sparked the
conflict by his escape from Elba. We also get the perspective of Marshal Nay,
distrusted by Napoleon because he has only recently returned from the royalist
fold, but who is revered by the French soldiers. Ian Gale brings the battle to
life. To find out more about the author, you must visit our Ian Gale page.
