Where were you born and raised?
In a caravan in Findforn, nr Inverness.
What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start
writing?
Went bankrupt in 1991 – had time on hands while building business – written 12
non-fiction published in 38 languages, and 3 fiction.
Which writers have influenced you the most?
Fiction – Robert Ludlum, James Clavell, Charles Dickens.
What kind of things do you write?
Fiction under pen name emerson cole- business thrillers.
Non-fiction under Colin Turner – eastern philosophy blended with contemporary
western thinking in a practical format for business.
What are you working on now?
The third book in the Connor Brock series.
What is your writing day like?
Morning is editing the previous days work, afternoon is new work.
What’s the most exciting thing about writing for you?
The research and travel. My books are all based on disturbing reality.
What’s the most frustrating thing about writing for you?
Writing part-time due to the numerous business commitments I have.
What’s the best piece of feedback that you’ve had from your audience?
That my writing is the vein of the great James Clavell, real gripping page
turner and the thinking person’s Dan Brown.
Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to
satisfy your own creativity?
I always write what I want to write – it is the best way to communicate to your
reader. It is important to know your audience and genre. I have a theory that
many of the browsers in bookshops are authors!
