Derbhile
Dromey is the author of the Authortrek short story Dishabille.
Derbhile
Dromey writes: “I live in Waterford, in the scenic south-east corner of
Ireland. I am in thrall to the wonder
of words. I believe my writing career began when I created tribes out of stones
on a windswept beach and a book is rarely out of my hands. When I'm not writing,
I'm listening to loud, thumping music, giving witty speeches at my local branch
of Toastmasters, a public speaking organisation, or walking the beach. I am not
a brooding, solitary writer, brooding in an ivory tower. I write in the park,
or while waiting for a bus, creating a bubble of silence for myself in the
midst of chaos.
Writing
fills every crevice of my life. I write professionally for a living and my
ramblings have appeared in outlets such as The Irish Examiner and Writer's
Forum. I am drawn to life's sensual delights and consider the tango scene
in Scent of a Woman to be the epitome of sensuality and romance. In
homage, I have written a sketch for my local drama group based on the films of
Al Pacino. Inspiration for this story (Dishabille) came during a
creative writing course run by the University of Maynooth, which I recently
completed.
I believe in
releasing myself from the shackles of inhibition. I milk a rich vein of humour,
sing badly and dance strange dances. To write is to be different and I embrace
that difference fully.”
