Demetrius Dillard interview, author of Lunal City: Stories from the Moon

Where were you born and raised?

 Martinsville, Virginia

What was it that first got you into writing and when did you start writing?

I've been writing pretty much my entire life. I consider myself an avid reader and at one point I had gotten bored with new material, so I took it upon myself to write something that would spark my own interest.

Which writers have influenced you the most?

The writers that I can say influenced me the most are Stephen King, Greg Bear, Ben Bova, and Robert Heinlein

What kind of things do you write?

I write mostly sci-fi and the poetic bug hits me every now and again.

What are you working on now?

Right now I'm working on the next instalment of my Lunal City collection and also a few poems.

What is your writing day like?

I write whenever the mood hits me, I don't have a time set to just write. Ideas seem to hit me at the most inconvenient times, but I grab them when they come.

What’s the most exciting thing about writing for you?

The most exciting thing about writing is seeing other people enjoy the time and effort that I put into creating my work.

What’s the most frustrating thing about writing for you?

The only really frustrating thing is when I get overcome by writers block, but luckily those instances have been few and far between.

What’s the best piece of feedback that you’ve had from your audience?

I was told when I was younger to reach for the stars and that's what I'm still doing to this day, I reach for the stars and I have been there many many times.

Do you write for a particular audience, or is your first priority to satisfy your own creativity?

At first I wrote for myself to satisfy my urge, but now I write for my audience. I want to create a world that people will still be able to relate to 20 years from now.
