Christine Aziz is the author of “The Olive Readers”.
Christine Aziz has been writing since childhood, but it was not until she had left
school at 15 that she was able to turn it into a profession. She began training as a reporter in the mid
sixties. As a freelance journalist,
between numerous other
jobs and parenting, she has contributed to most British national newspapers and for the BBC’s World Service. In the mid
90’s she reported from the Netherlands for The Guardian and The Scotsman, and
for over ten years reported on international women’s issues
for Marie Claire. She has
written for a number of
humanitarian agencies including The International Centre for Humanitarian Reporting. She has reported from Iraq,
Afghanistan, Africa, India, Ethiopia, Europe, the Middle East, the Arctic Circle and Sri Lanka. While working
as a freelance journalist she trained as a homeopath and continued her
creative writing. Her novel, The Olive Readers, was published in October last
year. The novel was chosen out of 46,000 entries submitted to the first Channel 4 Richard and Judy novel
writing competition. Since then Christine
has written a stage play, "Mary Shelley Goes to Hollywood",
and is at present working on her second
novel.
