Candy Guard is the author of “Just
a Little Disco on an Open-Top Bus”. Candy Guard is most famous for writing
and directing the adult animation series, “Pond Life”, which was broadcast on
Channel 4. Candy Guard’s mother, Charlotte Mitchell, was the voice of Ivy in “Pond Life”.
Candy Guard has won many awards for her animated films. She also had a cartoon
strip in “The Observer” called “PTO”. Candy Guard studied Media Production at
Northumbria University, although she had wanted to study Fine Art. She fell
into animation, as it was easier to make films on her own, rather than depend
on other people. Candy Guard credits childhood comics, such as “The Beano”, for
giving her inspiration. In 1988, Candy Guard won the Best Script Award for
“Alternative Fringe” at the British Animation Awards, and the “Best Film” Award
at the Ottawa Animation Festival for “Fatty Issues”. “Pond Life” has won the
following awards: Best Animation at the Indie Awards (1997), Best Director of
Animation Series and Best Animation at the Los Angeles Animation Fest (1997),
Best Animation at the Annecy Animation Festival (1997), and Best Animation
Series at the Ottawa Animation Festival (1998). Candy Guard has also done
animation for advertising campaigns, such as Nestle Ski Yoghurt and Clear Blue
Easy pregnancy testing kits. Candy Guard’s animated films have also appeared on
the BBC and MTV. In addition, Candy Guard has taught scriptwriting for
animation at college level. Furthermore, it looks as though Candy Guard done
the front cover illustration for “Just a Little Disco on an Open-Top Bus”.
