Biography
(from her publisher Canongate): Anne
Donovan is the author of the prize winning novel Buddha Da,
Being Emily
(2008), and the short-story collection Hieroglyphics. Buddha Da was shortlisted for the
Orange Prize, the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Scottish Book of the Year
Award, and was nominated for the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. It received a
Scottish Arts Council Award and won the Le Prince Maurice Award in Mauritius in
2004. She has also written for radio
and the stage and has been working on the screenplay for the film of Buddha
Da. She lives in Glasgow.

is a study guide to Buddha Da which includes an overview of Being
Emily published by the Association for Scottish Literary Studies (2010),
Glasgow. This 75 page guide written by Christopher Nicol includes full discussion
of themes, characters, setting and the language of the text. It is intended for use by students in
secondary schools and university and can be obtained through Amazon or directly
from the ASLS online.
