Biography (from the publisher): Alan
Spence is an award-winning poet and playwright, novelist and short-story
writer. His awards include the McVitie
Prize for Scottish Writer of the Year.
He is based in Edinburgh, where he and his wife run the Sri Chinmoy
Meditaion Centre. He is Professor in
Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen, where he is also Artistic
Director of the annual Aberdeen WORD Festival.
Alan Spence is the author of the following novels:
The Magic
Flute (1990), Way to Go
(1998), and The Pure
Land (2006). Alan Spence is
also a distinguished playwright: Sailmaker
(1983), Space
Invaders (1983), Changed
Days (1991), and The 3
Estaites (2002). He also writes short stories and poetry: Plop!
(1970), Its
Colours They Are Fine (1977), Glasgow
Zen (1981), Changed
Days: Memories of an Edinburgh Community (1991), Stone
Garden (1995), Way to Go (1998), Seasons of
the Heart (2000), and Clear
Light (2005).
