set in St. Petersburg, on the eve of the First World War. Pyotr Ryzkhov, a
government agent, witnesses the death of a child prostitute. The speed at which
the death is covered up leads Ryzkhov to suspect murder. His investigation
covers policemen, financiers, foreign diplomats, and even the Minister of Justice.
Then the brutal murder of a leading banker leads Ryzkhov to Sarajevo in Serbia,
